What a treat we had today! Mr. Worthington, from Indiana State University, came to our class to talk about forensic anthropology and geography. Besides showing the students different kinds of bones and how scientists determine what kind they are and who they belong to, he also discussed different careers in the area of geography.

Today we looked at the physical geography of East Asia. This discussion included landforms located in this region and how these landforms affect populations. For instance, population density is greater along the coastlines because of mountainous regions and also deserts.
Tomorrow we will have a guest speaker, Mr. Worthington. He will be talking to the students about forensic anthropology and geography.

Today the students did a short introductory exercise into Asia. We will begin some introductory things on Monday and Wednesday, and jump in head-first when we return from fall break. It is a large continent with many different areas to cover, so this will probably take us up through the end of the semester.
Chapter 4 test is tomorrow.

Today we reviewed the study guide that coincides with the information in chapter 4. The test over this chapter will be Friday, October 12.
Next week will be a short week for students. We will have school a full day Monday, half day Tuesday due to conferences, a full day Wednesday, and then we will be off Thursday and Friday for fall break.
Please remember that Tuesday is the very last day students may turn in permission slips and money for our field trip to the IRT. I will be making the reservations after school, so there will be no additions to the list after Tuesday, October 16.

We will be taking our first test on Friday of this week. The test of over chapter 4, which covers pp. 77-99. The students were all given a study guide today. We will be reviewing it tomorrow to ensure they found the correct information. If it is completed at the beginning of class tomorrow, they may use it on their test Friday. However, if it is not completed, I will encourage them to fill the guide in as we review it and use it to study for prior to the test.
Remember the money and the permission slips for the field trip to the IRT are due October 16.
Your son/daughter should also be bringing home a paper with your conference time listed on it. These are being passed out in math class, so please ask for it so you'll know when your scheduled conference time is.
Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!!

Today we discussed pp. 82 -- 86. These pages covered culture in terms of language, social groups, and religion. We discussed how each culture is broken up into smaller groups that do specific jobs within those groups. Families are one of the main social groups. Jobs within this group include caring for siblings, washing laundry, doing dishes, etc.
Just a reminder -- Field trip permission slips are due October 16. Also, conference times will be sent home with students early next week.

It's great to be back!!! I think I'm finding out that I need to do my post before I leave school. I didn't try to post anything during ISTEP or while we were at Bradford Woods, but since we've been back, I've tried from home and, since we are on dial-up, keep getting kicked off or timed-out. I'm sorry for not posting, but now we're getting back on track.
The Bradford Woods trip was a huge success. The kids had a great time and learned some valuable lessons about teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration. It was great to watch them pull together to accomplish their tasks...even if they all did end up in the lake!
Our next field trip is to the IRT and the permission slip was sent home with the students yesterday. It is imperative that if your child wants to attend this that the permission slip and money for the ticket (which is non-refundable) be returned no later than October 16. I will be turning in our reservations shortly after dismissal that day, so everything will be locked in.
In class we are continuing our study of culture and today watched a United Streaming video on the elements of culture and how cultures have differences and similarities.
